Aljazeera is citing a royal government study to “prove” that Shi`ites are, surprise surprise, less than 50% of the population.   Miraculously, the “study” also found that Sunnis are 51% percent of the population.  (thanks Basma)

If a Muslim cleric ruled that, it would be on the front pages of all US newspapers and UN Security Council would have ordered NATO to move

“What should a girl do if she wishes to dress modestly but her parents won’t let her? According to Rabbi Yitzchok Zilberstein she can injure herself in order to use it as an excuse for dressing modestly.  Three weeks ago, Rabbi Zilberstein, the…

Dennis Ross: speaking for Obama

“ First, we oppose the use of violence by governments and protesters alike.”  This was in April.  I guess that things change quickly.

Look at the headline about Morocco in the New York Times

It basically leaves the impression that the King undertook so much reform but that greedy people want even more reforms.

Mubarak in the Socialist International

A reader reminds me that Mubarak’s ruling party was in fact a member of the Socialist International.  In fact, next week, the Socialist International will admit the House of Saud as a new member.

Muhammad Habash

He is very articulate and has been a very effective propagandist for the Syrian regime.  In the last few weeks, he has been posing as a man of reform.  I am receiving information on him.  Apparently, he rose in politics by marrying the g…

Samiramis Hotel in Damascus

The Samiramis Hotel was scared yesterday of hosting another “opposition” conference although the fake stooge of the regime, Muhammad Habash, was one of the organizers.  One of the directors of the Hotel told the crowd that he could not host the co…

Abraham Foxman dressed as a Syrian man in the BHL’s conference on Syria

As you know by now, almost all the Syrian activists who were invited to the BHL’s conference on Syria have withdrawn.  So BHL was desperate for any Syrian presence in the conference.  Not to be disappointed, Abraham Foxman came to the rescue….

Flash: serious reform in Jordan

“Abdullah Abu Ruman, a newspaper columnist in charge of a government office that censors the media, was named information minister – a move signaling that the government will continue to control the press.” (thanks “Ibn Rushd”)

Syrian Muslim Brotherhood

A Syrian dissident living in Syria points out to me that Syrian Muslim Brotherhood is more present in the exile opposition than in the inside opposition, especially that the regime has arrested many of “the recently active”.  She agrees that they …

Ethan Bronner’s services to Israeli propaganda

“One result, largely unacknowledged by the flotilla leaders: far more goods have gone into Gaza over the past year, and while the 1.6 million people there still need many things, basic supplies are not among them.”  This is like someone writing …

Arab intellectuals

Who do so many Arab intellectuals suffer from an acute case of obsession with pleasing the White Man and telling him what he wants to hear?

Khaddam and Hamah

Al-Arabiyyah’s Hasan Mu`awwad (he used to work for the BBC) did an excellent job in the interview with `Abdul-Halim Khaddam.  At one point, he asked him about the crushing of the Hamah revolt in 1982.  Khaddam said it was a different situatio…

Al-Wifaq in Bahrain

Of course, Al-Wifaq agreed to participate in the royal dialogue conference.  It is a sectarian organization and thus I can’t trust it.

New Egyptian foreign minister: Muhammad `Urabi

There is no questions that the new foreign minister of Egypt has proven that he is, as I had suspected, a stooge of Saudi Arabia and the US.  For that he was chosen by Tantawi.
