Dumb and dumbest
Mick sent me this as the most dumb item in the US press on Lebanon thus far: “”This is our first election that is not just about a family or a name,” said lawyer Raif Akl, referring to the heavy influence of family ties on political loyalties in the…

Gemayyels
So the son of the little Lebanese Nazi, Bashir Gemayyel, Nadim Gemayyel has won as has Sami Gemayyel, the son of Amin Gemayyel. On this one, I need to express myself in Arabic in Al-Akhbar.

Al-Manar
I have not seen it, but Raed tells me that Al-Manar has only been reporting about seats that were won by the opposition during the day. It is called denial, in psychology.

Bin Laden: the poet
Moving away (for a second only) from the Lebanese elections, I have to comment on this: “Osama bin Laden is himself a poet, some say a good one, with a persuasive mastery of classical Arabic. His imagery leaps out from the 12th century, dripping with …

OK
OK. Now that the election results are out (almost), the Lebanese can now resume their main hobby: getting ready for the next round…of civil strife.

Danger
The potential of mischief is higher in Lebanon now.

Funny
Would it not be funny if I start writing now about the wisdom of mini-Hariri? Or if I start writing expressing my wishes for the full recovery of Prince Sultan (although the man is dead).

Dumb
Let me tell you how dumb the opposition is. They expected that they can bring down the Sanyurah government by staging a sit-in in downtown Beirut. That tells you about their miscalculations.

My two bets
To Mirvat and As`ad–not me: since I won my bet, I would like the following: Karabij (with Natif and have them seal the natif container well) from Amal Bohsali shop in Beirut. (Use the Hamra branch store).

Hannah Arendt
Even though I am bragging about my accurate prediction of the election results, but Hannah Arendt never believed that we should engage in predictions in politics. She thought that politics is not about predictions and that it should not be.

Tomorrow’s US media coverage
Tomorrow’s US media coverage will refer to the winning coalition as “pro-Western.” Tell them that Khalid Daher (a staunch pro-Bin Ladenite from Tripoli who was a major campaigner for recruits for Zarqawi in Iraq) won on Hariri list in North Lebanon.

So was it right?
I have mentioned this before. An opposition leader in Lebanon called me months ago and expressed his private reservations about Hizbullah and their strategy. He told me that many in the opposition believe that Hizbullah may have a deliberate strategy…

My apologies
I apologize because I have not been able to update on you the health of Prince Sultan.

Saudi and Israeli gloating
Please spare now the Saudi and Israeli gloating which assume that the Lebanese people voted for Prince Muqrin and Netanyahu.

`Awn’s visit to Syria and Iran
In hindsight, Michel `Awn’s visit to Syria and Iran months before the election proved to be quite unpopular with Christian voters. `Awn’s stubborness sometimes favor him and other times hurts him. In this instance, it hurt him.

Patriarch Sfayr
There is no question that this 89 year old man did a lot to sway Christian voters toward March 14.

Hariri control of Sunnis
My mother yesterday told me (with a hint of embarrassment in her voice) that all her (Sunni Beiruti) family is with Hariri.

of course there is one problem
March 14 has one serious problem: the Shi`ites are the single largest sect in Lebanon: and they are even more numerous if you consider that most of those who came from abroad to vote were March 14 supporters. Oh, and they are armed. Heavily armed.

Wilayat Al-Faqih
Hizbullah has a major problem on its hands. March 14 won over Christian voters by scaring the entire electorate with the threat that Chador will be imposed on all women in Lebanon. People in Lebanon who I don’t even know sent me information on that. …

Flash
This just in. The US government just announced that based on the results of the Lebanese election, they will supply the Lebanese Army with these new very advanced weapons. (thanks Issandr)
