Genetic Superiority of the Lebanese People Update. This is almost a daily feature in An-Nahar newspaper (the right-wing, sectarian Christian, anti-Syrian (people), anti-Palestinian (people) publication). There is a daily news item about some Lebanese genius somewhere: often times it is about a Lebanese who “invented” either a cure for AIDS or cancer, or both. Here, [...]

We know who did this to Nahr Al-Barid camp: it was the Lebanese Army supported by an overwhelming majority of the Lebanese people, and by Arab governments including the PA. (AFP)

There is a really intense campaign of hostility against Nasser in the Saudi press. Can somebody remind them that he is dead?

Is this a time to play games? Is it really the time to be coy? Palestinian Oslo prime minister, Isam`il Haniyyah, accused “Arab governments” of arming “Palestinian parties.” This is not the time for this play on words. Name names. Be specific, or go and…have a falafil sandwich. And do you think that you are [...]

The “culture editor” of Hariri rag, Al-Mustaqbal, Paul Shawul, writes strictly according to the wishes of the publisher of the publication where he works. That was the case when he wrote in Al-Mustaqbal magazine, and that is the case in his new home. Lately, he has been writing really long and tedious articles. I have [...]

Every day for the last two weeks, Hariri rag Al-Mustaqbal, has been carrying a variation of the same headline, to the effect that Fath-Al-Islam is about to be finished off–any minute now.

Hell, if you can keep it. “There is a story, often told, that upon exiting the Constitutional Convention Benjamin Franklin was approached by a group of citizens asking what sort of government the delegates had created. His answer was: “A republic, if you can keep it.”” Neo-cons are now quoting this to suggest that Mr. [...]

Tony Blair was interviewed on AlJazeera TV. I have never seen a foreign official grilled more thoroughly or toughly.

It is quite hilarious to read Fouad Ajami defending Scooter Libby. This is akin to Rustum Ghazalah defending Prince Bandar from accusations of corruption.

Asalah, the Syrian singer, is one of my favorite singers these days. She is one of those people that you enjoy listen to her sing or speak in interviews. And her Damascene accent pleases Angry Arab. But I saw her the other day on LBC-TV, and I could not recognize her. She looked different; she [...]

“Speaking Thursday at the Group of 8 meeting in northern Germany, Mr. Blair said that if the investigation had gone ahead, it “would have involved the most serious allegations in investigations being made into the Saudi royal family, and my job is to give advice as to whether that is a sensible thing in circumstances [...]

Update from Nahr Al-Barid. A Western reporter in Lebanon sent me this message today: “i was at Badawi today filming and interviewing the refugees..I was talking to a group of middle aged Palestinian men from Nahr el Bared after a few questions I asked who they thought had funded Fatah Al Islam and if Hariri [...]

“Dozens of Jewish worshippers desecrated a Muslim cemetery in a Palestinian village near Arial on Friday. The worshippers broke some tombstones, and wrote “Death to Arabs†on others. Noaf, a resident of a nearby village, said that the worshippers arrived at the cemetery escorted by soldiers.” (thanks Rashid)
