Apparently, the Israeli commando raid on Tyre yesterday was another failure. It aimed at a Hizbullah leader who was visiting the region but got instead probably another grocer. If this war did not do anything (and it destroyed Lebanon for sure), it certainly destroyed the feat factor among the Arabs. This is how significant this [...]

Amin Gemayyel yesterday offered advise to the Shi`ites of Lebanon. Oh ya, Amin. They will listen to you. Keep talking.

I noticed that in the meeting today between David Welsh (Asst Sec of State for Near East) and leaders of March 14, Walid Jumblat (who proudly reads The New York Review of Books and who finds “documents on the internet”) was not represented. (Have you noticed how much Western reporters like to interview Jumblat? And [...]

Ayman Adh-Dhawahiri appeared today with a new message; he announced a merger between Al-Qa`idah and [a faction of] the Egyptian Al-Jama`ah Al-Islamiyyah. That should add 3 people, no more, to Al-Qa`idah. And does Dhawahiri think that anybody is listening to his tedious speeches? And Al-Hakaymah himself (the dude who joined Al-Qa`idah from Al-Jama`ah Al-Islamiyyah) contradicted [...]

A trial issue of the Lebanese yet-to-be-launched Al-Akhbar newspaper reported about a split within the ranks of Al-Yasar Ad-Dimuqrati especially that Ilyas `Atallah now sounds like Samir Ja`ja`.

Hariri clerics are nervous. It is clear that Hariri Inc is not happy with recent trends in Sunni public opinion. The creation of a new Islamist Front under the leadership of Fathi Yakan, and the shift of Al-Jama`ah Al-Islamiyyah away from Hariri Inc, must have confused Hariri Inc who assumed that they have owned the [...]

Sexist “Analysis”: Michel `Awn said that Rice is insensitive because she has never been a mother. Is that why Cheney and Bush are insensitive? Try to keep sexist bogus analysis out of this, would you?

Arab citizens of Israel have been interviewed on Arab TV stations. All the ones that I have seen blame the Israeli government for this war. Several said that there is a number of Arab victims of Hizbullah bombings because Israeli military installations, founded on stolen Arab lands, are all adjacent to Arab villages and towns.

The propagandist of the Syrian regime, `Imad Fawzi Shu`aybi, really bothers me. He has been quite triumphalist in this conflict. He writes as if the army of the Ba`thist regime is fighting Israel. But that army is good at fighting the people of Syria, not Israel. Read his article in Ad-Diyar: it is most vulgar [...]

The picture that was published yesterday in Ad-Diyar ostensibly of the Israeli gunship that was hit with Hizbullah missiles is a fake picture. It is available on the internet.

“The [9/11] commission disagreed as to how to characterize al-Qaida’s motives for attacking the U.S., with Hamilton arguing that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the presence of U.S. forces in the Middle East were major contributors. Unidentified members believed that “listing U.S. support for Israel as a root cause of al-Qaida’s opposition to the United States [...]

“Correct me if I’m wrong, but this is the first war in which we haven’t seen meek Arab POWs in blindfolds and handcuffs. We are tangling here with soldiers who have been trained to fight to the death. What was Ehud Olmert thinking, in those Churchillian speeches of his, when he told us Hezbollah would [...]

Another day of the nightmare: scenes from Beirut under Israeli aggression.

“Since its withdrawal of occupation forces from southern Lebanon in May 2000, Israel has violated the United Nations-monitored “blue line” on an almost daily basis, according to UN reports. Hizbullah’s military doctrine, articulated in the early 1990s, states that it will fire Katyusha rockets into Israel only in response to Israeli attacks on Lebanese civilians [...]

“In Lebanon, it’s a different scene. Time after time, Israel has hit civilian homes and cars in the southern border zone, killing dozens of people with no evidence of any military objective. My notebook overflows with reports of civilian deaths. On July 15, Israeli fire killed 21 people fleeing from Marhawin, including 13 children; no [...]

Zbigniew Brzezinski: “”Neocon prescriptions [of use of force to try to change things unilaterally] of which Israel has its equivalents, are fatal for America and ultimately for Israel. They will totally turn the overwhelming majority of the Middle East’s population against the United States. The lessons of Iraq speak for themselves. Eventually, if neocon policies [...]

Khalid Hdadah, secretary-general of the Lebanese Communist Party, has been doing a great job during the crisis. He did a magnificent job on LBC-TV the other day. Comradely salutations from Angry Arab, Khalid.

The Assistant Secretary of State for the Near East (who sneakily arrived into Lebanon) had to enter the Prime Minister’s building from a back door. He wanted to avoid the demonstrators outside.

So since this Israeli war of aggression started on Lebanon, one–ONE–Israeli soldier refused to serve. I took note. That tells me a lot. That tells Arabs a whole lot.
