“Earlier, at least 16 civilians were killed after a bomb flattened a building near the southern Lebanese town of Tyre. Five members of one family were killed in a strike in Aitaroun. All were visiting expatriate Lebanese who held Canadian citizenship. Around 140 Lebanese civilians have been killed so far.”
I am amazed at how people talk about “moving Hizbullah” or “ending Hizbullah.” Let me give you an example. Take a village in South Lebanon, like Qulaylah, for example. The overwhelming people of the village, young and old, men and women, etc, support Hizbullah. And the same is true in most, if not all, Shi`ite [...]
There has been some 637 attacks on Palestinians in Iraq since the US war on Iraq. Many are at the hands of the Sh`ite sectarian militias working hand-in-hand with the occupation forces.
One Lebanese newspaper reported that the Lebanese Army has enough ammunition for one day. And you want the defense of Lebanon to be in the hands of those clowns who only used their power against the Palestinians (they even bombed camps from the air in 1973)?
From the poem Awaiting the Bird of Thunder by Palestinian poet Samih Al-Qasim (my translation):“And it happens that he comeshe comes with the suna face distorted in the dustof school curriculaand it happens that he comesafter the suicide ofdrought in my voicesomething…its splendoris limitlesssomething called in songs:the bird of thunder! He must comewe have reached it,we [...]
It is ironic and gratifying that the Palestinian people, of all people, have been the most supportive of the Lebanese people in this agony.
Do you count that? The New York Times and US media make a piont of counting every missile that falls on Israel. By yesterday, the number of Israeli air raids, RAIDS not missiles, on Lebanon was 1350.
In the statement that obscurantist Maronite Patriarch Sfayr released, he avoided mentioning the world Israel or Israeli. He is now pathetically waiting in Washington, DC to meet with Bush and Cheney.
I am willing to pay money for Ghassan Tuwayni to retire. Once and for all.
The amount of aid that Saudi Arabia announced for Lebanon equals an amount spent by King Fahd on one casino table in one night in France in the 1970s.
An Egyptian holds a sign: “Your Excellency and majesty [Arab kings, princes and presidents], Itfu (an Arabic word that refers to the sound you make when you spit).”
In one article I read in an Arabic newspaper, the writer talks about Israeli aggression as “child by child, bridge by bridge.”
Wisam Sa`adah on Israeli aggression.
Tracking US propaganda in the Arabic press. In Hariri rag, Al-Mustaqbal, they have a news item with this headline: “US adopts an ethical strategy in Iraq.”
Finally. Israeli occupation troops were able to bomb the Hizbullah militia leader who is responsible for sending missiles on Haifa. Don’t be surprised if the Nation magazine celebrates this hit as a victory for Israel’s “absolute security.”
UK newspapers but NOT US newspapers published pictures of dead Lebanese children today. Even the Daily Telegraph. But according to US media, Arabs don’t bleed.
I am not a Christian. Don’t forgive, and don’t forget.
The American Left and the Middle East: The Case of the Nation Magazine, II. This was bound to happen. I was just waiting for this. Wake up the children, and free the pigs from the barn. The Nation magazine has spoken. Oh, ya. The Nation magazine is mouthing off on the Middle East. Let us [...]
Hanady Salman, a friend and editor at As-Safir in Beirut, sent a batch of pictures (some above) and this message:“Dear friends and colleaguesThe list is longer toady .the pictures are from everywhere . The scope of shelling was terrible today. They’re hitting everywhere, killing everywhere. Apologies if it turns out to be inconveniant and many [...]
For those who care, I shall speak on Lebanon on Democracy Now tomorrow (Monday) at 5:00AM (Pacific Time). You may listen live or watch on LinkTV.
