I can’t believe the Nation magazine these days. Forget about the dearth of Leftist content. It is worse. There is an attempt to emulate the tabloidish form and treatment of Newsweek. And then there are those who (ignorantly) write on Middle East events. Take STUART KLAWANS. I don’t know who this guy is, but I [...]

“I asked [Lionel] Richie if he knows just how big he is here. He said, “The answer is, I’m huge, huge in the Arab world. The answer as to why is, I don’t have the slightest idea.”” (Unfortunately, Richie is right.)

Tell that to Bernard Lewis: “Afghanistan gripped by worst fighting since 2001″. But in fairness to Lewis. He has the answer. He does not think that the Bush administration is tough enough with Arabs and Muslims. Has any US reporter asked Lewis if he favors a nuclear bomb on (not for) Arabs?

“A review of a sample of official Saudi textbooks for Islamic studies used during the current academic year reveals that, despite the Saudi government’s statements to the contrary, an ideology of hatred toward Christians and Jews and Muslims who do not follow Wahhabi doctrine remains in this area of the public school system. The texts [...]

Look how carefully, vaguely, and propagandistically Haaretz phrases EVERY story that includes references to Israeli killing of Palestinians: “A Palestinian woman was killed on Sunday in the Balata refugee camp near the West Bank city of Nablus in a shooting incident. Witnesses blamed the death on Israel Defense Forces soldiers in the area, a charge [...]

Bernard Lewis: Not a Tribute II. Notice in the transcript that when the USA today reporter asked about what “those people” think, he answered her by talking about Bin Laden. And this is how Lewis justifies his ignorance of various measures of Arab public opinion:“MR. LEWIS: We have no way of measuring opinion in these [...]

Art in the service of Western stereotypes. This Impossible Dream painting is by Laila Shawa (thanks to Layla A. for sending me the site). I like the colors and humorous attempt in the painting, but the idea is just plane ridiculous. It is intended for Western buyers, I have no doubt, and this painting is [...]

The Myth of the Arab Lobby: a Reply to Ibish. I never thought that I would enter into an argument with Hussein Ibish, of all people. Many of you, really many, sent me his article in the Daily Star. But the editorial page of the Daily Star is edited by right-wing Lebanonese columnist, Michael Young, [...]

Look at this headline from today’s New York Times: “Seeking United Latin America, Venezuela’s Chávez Is a Divider.” Would they dare post such a headline about a pro-US leader?

Hamas Fools and Fath crooks: I have never been a fan of Hamas’ ideology or of its practice but you have to be blind to not see the US/Israeli conspiracy against a democratically-elected Palestinian government. `Arafat, despite my contempt for him, at least had popular support, which put some restraints on his behavior, and limited [...]

The suppressed scandal: the family of Jihad `Abdul-Hamid Al-`Aklah mounrns him in North Lebanon. Misbah Al-Ahdab is a Lebanonese member of parliament. A Hariri member of parliament told me that he saw a payroll list (that Rafiq Hariri used to keep and show when he wanted) and it had Misbah Al-Ahdab’s name on it early [...]
