My dear friend Joseph is right. The horrible trajectory of Arab (consrvative) “liberal” disourse was really firmly set on foot in Taha Husayn’s Mustaqbal Ath-Thaqafah Fi Misr. The rest are crude imitations. At least, Husayn was erudite and sharp.
